How and when to book
Clients typically book during the second and third trimester of the pregnancy and last minute requests are subject to availability. Each client receives an online Contract that needs to be signed by each client. This form covers all the aspects of the session, including the terms and conditions of the service. Every client pays a non-refundable booking fee of $50 deposit, which will be deducted from your total. Once the deposit is paid and the Contract is signed, we will set a date from your due date or scheduled c-section, with the understanding that we can easily move the date or time, if baby comes early or late. We ask clients to message within 48 hours, providing the date of baby’s birth. The session ideally has to be done within 12 days of baby’s birth with the exception of preemies. Older newborns can be also photographed and clients are advised to contact me as soon as possible to find a spot.
About the session
The session will last between 2-4 hours depending on the package you have chosen and the main focus of the session is to capture images of your newborn. I will always give you time to cuddle and feed your baby as it is important to provide you with a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for your family. I don’t work on a rush as I have no intention to put pressure on my clients and I am happy to help you to sooth or change your baby to make things easier for you. All the props and outfits are included and there is no need to buy ABSOLUTELY anything. Just come here enjoy and relax. If you have chosen the Silver or Gold packages, family photos are offered as bonus and includes partners and siblings only. Family photos will be done either at the beginning or at the end of the session and it will take a maximum of 20-30 minutes. Small siblings do not need to stay with us as they tend to get bored and with so much fragile equipment it is always recommended to make other plans for them.
Preparing for the session
In order to help you during the session, I have created a few tips to make the experience more enjoyable and each booked client receives a guide to help them be prepared and know what to expect. Please do take time to read through the prep guide and feel free to ask any questions.
For breast-feeding moms, it is best to avoid certain foods/drinks at least 24-48 hours before the session, as it may occasionally impact the baby and cause fussiness during a session. Here is a list of foods to avoid/restrict: lemons, oranges, cranberries, pineapples, grapefruit, strawberries, tomatoes and spicy foods. Try your best to also restrict how much caffeine you consume on the day of your session.
Delivery of images, products and editing policy (also applicable for maternity sessions)
After the session is completed, your images will be ready within 3 weeks. Fine art products such as prints, photo books, or canvas are available upon request and I would encourage to invest in products that can be displayed in your walls . I offer an extensive collection of amazing unique products and demos are available for viewing at my studio.
My photography style
I like to keep things simple to focus on your baby rather than the big-busy set ups where things get lost. It is important to ensure the photographers style is to your taste prior to booking. Any special requests for styling or variations to the photographers type of style or editing must be communicated at the time of booking. A few days prior the session I will connect with you to know your preferences for colours and ideas with poses that I display in my portfolio. The plan is to design a beautiful session that you and your family will love for generations.
If you wish to incorporate anything with sentimental value you will need to discuss it with me at the time of booking.
About my studio
I have a small home studio located in Burke Mountain, Coquitlam. There are two visitor’s spots in the complex as well as plenty of street parking adjacent to the adjacent park. Access to the studio is through a private entrance in the back. My house is smoke/pet free and I use the latest studio lights, which will have no impact on your baby’s eyes.
When to book
The best time to schedule your maternity session around 30-35 weeks, when the belly is nice and round. This will vary with each women – and some women who carry small, or gain little weight may choose to wait until they are 36-38 weeks. Other women who are growing a bit more rapidly, may choose to get the session done around 30-32 weeks, specially if you are carrying twins. It is best to schedule at least 3-4 months in advance. Each maternity session will include a phone consultation (in person consult available as well) to choose the gowns and discuss all the details about your session.
My style of photography
All portraits are respectfully photographed in good taste, and nudity is always optional and discreet. I will suggest various poses during the session that are planned according to your individual needs. My goal is to make you feel beautiful and create stunning images that you and your family will feel proud of.
Gowns: I own collection of maternity gowns created by the best designers in the industry. During your consultation, I will assist you to choose the gowns that better suit your needs and I will guide you throughout the process to create fantastic portraits that you will love for years to come.
Maternity sessions can be booked outdoors between March-October. I am flexible to reschedule a session if weather does not cooperate. I like to shoot early evening, this way we utilize the gorgeous and soft golden evening light. I typically shoot at Barnet Marine Park but if clients have a different idea for alocation I am open to discuss your ideas and travel if needed. If you want to incorporate props, I always recommend to bring a photo of the ultrasound, baby shoes, special cloth, etc. Pets are welcome in any outdoor session!
Regardless of which milestone you wish to be documented, it is best to book a couple of months in advance, especially if you want the photos in time for your baby’s 1st birthday.
,Outfits: I own a collection of outfits for 3, 6, 12 and 18 month old babies, for in-studio use only. If you wish to book an outdoor session, you must provide your own outfit.
My packages are aimed to capture the baby or child only, so the focus will be mainly on them. I will, however, include 1-2 family portraits. If you wish to have more, I would be happy to accommodate your request for an extra charge. The client needs to request additional family images at the time of the booking. Extended family members will also incur an additional fee.
